Darren Bent is Aston Villa’s ‘mailman’

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has been nicknamed the “mailman” by owner Randy Lerner because the striker “always delivers” the goals in a claret and blue shirt.
Lerner smashed Villa’s record transfer fee in January when he sanctioned the £24million transfer from Sunderland and has been repaid with 11 goals in 22 appearances since the England international signed.
Bent said: “It’s after a basketball player, Karl Malone. They called him ‘the Mailman’ because apparently he always delivered, so Randy calls me that now.
“Randy’s always been good to me and I know he was good to one or two of the other players who aren’t here any more, like Ashley Young. I think a lot of the lads think he’s a top, top chairman.”
