New deals on Villa’s back-burner

Alex McLeish today urged any Villa players seeking new contracts to switch their attentions to matters on the pitch.
Carlos Cuellar, Emile Heskey and Brad Guzan will all become free agents next summer while defenders Stephen Warnock, Richard Dunne and James Collins along with club captain Stiliyan Petrov have deals which expire in 2013.
But McLeish does not want any off-the-pitch issues to distract from his side’s Premier League commitments as he bids to continue their unbeaten start to the season against Wigan this weekend.
“I don’t think it’s the time to talk about contracts at the moment,” said the Villa boss. “We are focussing on very important games coming up. Once we get a decent footing in the Premier League then I think we can start to look at other things.”
