Darren Bent puts Villa on the spot
Wednesday 28th September 2011, 10:59AM BST.
Aston Villa striker Darren Bent today insisted he will remain as the club’s penalty king despite Barry Bannan’s recent spot-kick success.
Bannan notched his first goal of the season from the spot against Queens Park Rangers last weekend, after Bent was forced to sit out the game at Loftus Road with a groin injury.
But the England striker, who should be fit enough to return to the starting line-up against Wigan on Saturday, revealed he will resume the responsibility with immediate effect.
He said: “I, 100 per cent, want to keep taking the penalties. I was delighted to see Barry slot that one away, it was a top spot-kick.
“It was his first goal in the Premier League too so I really couldn’t have been happier for him. It must have been a big moment for him.”
