Aston Villa boss calls for patience

Alex McLeish today spelt out the financial reality facing Aston Villa and urged supporters to be patient.

The Villa boss was handed the task of balancing the books as owner Randy Lerner ushered in a new period of austerity after the excessive spending of previous managers.

McLeish has been able to trim the wage bill but it has seen his squad weakened as more players have left the club than arrived.

“It’s not going to be the Villa of 1982 or the giddy heights of a couple of years ago. We’ve got to be patient. There has got to be patience,” said McLeish.

So don’t expect the giddy heights of 6th – he’s a real inspiration isn’t he? – i’ve supported Villa for nearly 50 years now and i’ve never come so close to not bothering anymore – i’ll just keep my head down and wait for McLeish to go away.

like greg ,supporter for many years since 1957 to be exact; mcleish certainly does not inspire me , asking every one to be patient, for what hoping all the other prem teams will go bankrupt and sell all their players to villa for peanuts.lerner needs mcleish at his cleveland browns they need a defensive coach;as for lerner, i think he will put villa up forsale before end of year, and sell in new year.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
