Stiliyan Petrov wants to score more
Wednesday 14th September 2011, 10:45AM BST.
Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has vowed to prove his critics wrong and follow up his wonder strike against Everton with a few more goals this season.
The Bulgaria international only found the net twice in 35 appearances in the last campaign, but opened his account at Goodison Park with a spectacular long-range effort and has promised more goals will follow.
He said: “I am delighted with the goal. I am criticised for not getting enough goals and against Everton I scored a good goal.
“There were a lot of people in front of me when I hit the shot so I wasn’t sure it had even gone in.
“People have been on my back about it but it is normal to get people on your back if you don’t score goals.
“But that is the way it goes and I hope this season I am able to prove them wrong.
“I have been moved into a position which is a bit more advanced and I’ve been given license to get forward.”
