Aston Villa boss hails home faithful

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has praised fans for keeping their cool as the team left it late to see off League Two minnows Hereford in the Carling Cup.
The manager used several of his fringe players as Villa edged into the third round, thanks to goals in the last 10 minutes from Eric Lichaj and Nathan Delfouneso.
Hereford goalkeeper David Cornell frustrated the hosts with a string of fine stops and McLeish hailed the Villa Park crowd for sticking by the team.
He said: “You kind of expect the crowd to be disgruntled because they’re looking for you to bang in the goals, but they were very patient. We thank them for that.
“At the same time, we’ve got to take it on the chin and understand if we’re not producing that, just like any fans at any other club, they are entitled to voice their opinion.”
