Villa pair withdraw from internationals

Villa manager Alex McLeish was today monitoring the fitness of Darren Bent and James Collins after the pair withdrew from international duty.
Bent has withdrawn from the England squad to face Holland in a friendly on Wednesday with a slight shoulder problem picked up in Villa’s 1-1 draw with Braga in Portugal at the weekend.
Collins sat out the final warm-up match with a back injury and will now miss Wales’ match with Australia, but McLeish expects him to pull out all of the stops to face Fulham in Villa’s Premier League opener in five days time.
The Villa boss said: “James has injured his back. He did it a few days ago to be fair and he thought he was OK in training on Friday.
“It’s a worry – but knowing the type of character James is, I’m sure he’ll be determined to be on that pitch at Craven Cottage.”
