Aston Villa were today pondering a surprise late bid for Blackpool striker DJ Campbell as boss Alex McLeish aims to boost his attack before the season starts.

The 29-year-old has a release clause for £1.25million which has already been met by Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers, but Villa may try and hijack the deal.

Campbell, an ex-Villa trainee who was released in 2000 after he was not offered a professional contract, is thought to be flattered by the interest and, although moving to London is his preference, he would consider the move.

McLeish has been told by the board he must sell before he can buy but, with Campbell available on the cheap, it is thought a deal could be sanctioned.

Why not!!!

Why not at £1.25million 13 goals for a club relagated.

The King of Bilstonia

Why not - because he is a dreadful third rate signing. Is he really better than Heskey, Agbonlahor or Delfouneso NO

If thats the best AM or Learner can come up with then forget it, we need quality especially after our so called performance against Chelsea. There is also a rumour that AM is after Ridgewell, this was stated by the player himself when asked about joining Albion. It is obvious that Learner has bought a manager in that knows how do get relegated because he is only interested in bringing in has beens. As i wrote the other day all us villa fans are being conned by Learner who's only interest is his American club.

Isolated Thinker

Scored more than the 3 of them combined last season.

And then some.

Worcester_Wolves

Most Prem clubs would cry out for a "third rate" Striker who scored 13 goals a season.....

smithyjames7

get him on a years contract, you never know

Emile Huskey

I'd say he looked a lot more lively than Heskey did last season. Go for it.

Bob

The King has it.. With the Fonz, gabby,Heskey and even Weimann looking to play after bent, why would we??! Sort out the defense instead
