Bent hails Villa’s move for N’Zogbia
Thursday 28th July 2011, 10:59AM BST.
Darren Bent has hailed the impending arrival of Charles N’Zogbia to Villa and hopes the winger can help him score the goals to become England’s first-choice striker.
N’Zogbia will undergo a medical at Bodymoor Heath today and should complete the formalities of his £9.5million transfer from Wigan over the weekend.
And Bent said: “If N’Zogbia comes, that will be a fantastic signing for us. Our aim is to finish above ninth and have a much more solid finish to the season.
“It’s been a bit crazy and we’ve lost two fantastic players, but we showed against Blackburn that we can beat Premier League teams.”
Bent netted his third goal in two pre-season games as he helped Villa book their place in the final of Barclays Asia Trophy with a 1-0 win over Rovers in Hong Kong.
The 27-year-old admitted that, after securing the No 9 shirt at Villa, he is eager to the do the same at international level with England.
He added: “To be England’s No 9 would be fantastic but there are still a lot of contenders out there like Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe and others. So it’s important for me to keep my form up.
“First and foremost, I want to do well for Villa.”
