Charles N'Zogbia has revealed he had his heart set on a move to Villa as soon as the claret and blues declared their interest in him.

Villa confirmed last night that they have agreed a fee with Wigan – believed to be £9.5million – for the Latics winger who will agree personal terms and undergo a medical within the next three days.

And the 25-year-old Frenchman, who will put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the club, insisted that he was only ever going to join Villa.

He told the French press: "The move is not made yet. I must agree on the terms of the contract.

"Liverpool or Arsenal could have positioned themselves but I would still go to Villa – it has been two to three weeks and the club has done everything to have me."

The Express & Star also understands that McLeish had even begun to make enquiries about Wolves winger Matt Jarvis, as frustration grew over negotiations on the fee for N'Zogbia.
