Ian Taylor tips McLeish to buy big
Thursday 23rd June 2011, 10:30AM BST.
Villa favourite Ian Taylor believes owner Randy Lerner will back manager Alex McLeish with cash – because he cannot afford for his boss to fail.
Club ambassador Taylor reckons the chairman’s reputation is on the line after McLeish’s controversial switch from Birmingham.
The Scot’s move caused shockwaves in the Second City after Lerner picked him to replace Gerard Houllier last week – just five days after he quit Blues.
Fans protested against McLeish’s appointment and Taylor thinks Lerner will bankroll the Scot’s Villa Park revolution.
Taylor said: “Randy will definitely back him because he won’t want this move to fail. Everyone is waiting for it to fail and the manager will get less time than others.
“He’ll back him within his means – he hasn’t got a bottomless pit but he’ll definitely want to back the manager.”
