Ashley Young set for talks with Villa
Monday 6th June 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Ashley Young was today set for crunch talks to finalise his Villa future – as Darren Bent admitted he would not blame his team-mate for joining Manchester United.
The 25-year-old winger has 12 months left on his current deal and has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, but United now looks the most likely destination.
Although he gave little away about where his future lies, Young confirmed a decision will be made imminently as prepares to sit down with Villa owner Randy Lerner.
Young said: “I’m going to talk to the chairman this week and we’ll see where we go from there. I’ve always had the belief I can play at the highest level. I’ve always had self-belief.
“I want to test myself at the highest level – the World Cup, the European Championships and the Champions League.
“As a kid you always want to play in the best competitions, and the Champions League is one of them. As a kid, I wanted to play in it and, hopefully, one day I will.
“People say the prime of your career is 25, 26 and 27. I’m 26 next month so hopefully I’m coming into my prime.”
