Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Steve McClaren backed for Aston Villa job
Saturday 4th June 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Graham Taylor today backed Steve McClaren for the Villa hotseat and ruled Mark Hughes out of the running.
The former Villa chief reckons McClaren can bring his European experience to the claret and blues and rebuild his damaged reputation in England.
McClaren is on Villa’s radar along with Hughes in the race to replace Gerard Houllier after the Welshman quit Fulham on Thursday.
Carlo Ancelotti, Martin Jol and Roberto Martinez have all been linked to the job since Houllier left by mutual consent on Wednesday following heart problems.
McClaren found success at FC Twente, winning the Dutch Eredivisie in 2010, after a disastrous spell with England where he was sacked after failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

Graham Taylor is obviously out of touch with us fans. If McClaren is appointed there will be a riot &n i for one will want a refund on my season ticket. I can see ihim noe being intervied putting on a fake Brummie accent.

If this was to happen I would walk up the M6 to VP to show my dissatisfaction!! Surely Randy wouldn’t do this to us?
NO! if this idiot even becomes a cleaner at Villa Park i will not wear a Villa jersey. Thanks to Houllier so much damage has been done and don’t need McClaren to make things worse. Villa have so much good history but lately we’ve had too many bad times. Hope Mr. Learner start’s listening to the fan’s for once.

If that failure comes anywhere near Villa I’ll be keeping my money well and truly in my pocket. In a fan survey asking who would you want as manager, he’s the only candidate with 0% votes. He’s got less than David O’Leary returning :)

If mcClaren gets the job I will no longer support them! I’ve been a season ticket holder for 5 years, and we should be going for David moyes or ancolotti!! They may cost some money but you have to spend big money to win things I’m afraid. McClaren is a good coach but not a good manager! If mr learner goes with him then I can see mist villa fans asking for him to leave. Quite strong comment but we need someone that has proven in the premier league.
Up the villa

same here is Mclownen is appointed the only way I will be going to Villa park is to protest. Give the fans what they want and deserve with Ancelotti and they fans will repay you ten times over. First chance Villa have of getting a top class manager so please not let us down.

I bet it will be McClaren, uuuugh Randy Lerner really doesn’t know what hes doing, appointing Houiller before last season was the wrong option, and now if he gets McClaren i to will lose faith in Villa, Lerner needs to check out that poll i saw that had 0% support for McClaren, why aren’t we going after Mark Hughes?!?!

I think the above comments sum up how we all would feel if hew was appointed.
There is only oner candidate and that is Carlo Ancelotti!!!! go get him Randy do it for us fans!!!!

Don’t give him the chance. Someone with a GOOD record please.
Ancelotti, Rijkaard, Benitez, Klinsmann. All free agents, all keen to manage in the premier league.
Failing that, Coyle, Martinez both good young managers already in the premier league, both play good football.

Please please please DO NOT appoint Scchhhteeeve McClaren! He’s an absolute idiot! Had a season ticket 20 yrs and this will test my loyalty if he’s appointed.

What has he ever achieved. If he is appointed then it will confirm my suspcions the board of Villa are barking

I think he would be a great asset to midlands football it would mean Us Wolves and the boggies would avoid relegation

God, as a Villa fan of 50 years I still don’t understand the other fans. McLaren is a bloody good manager who even managed to win a cup with poxy Boro. He brought youngsters through, got them to punch above their weight in Europe and did a good job in the England setup until he made the mistake of taking on the most thankless task in football under the FA. Then he took Twente to their first championship ever! He was trained by Fergie who didn’t want to lose him as an assistant and given some time would probably do a great job for Villa.
Like Houllier, McLaren would be a long-term choice who could bring youngsters through and get us punching above our weight, Randy isn’t a Russian or Arab oilman you know! Of course our fickle fans wouldn’t give him the chance. How long did it take Ron Saunders? You lot deserve some thick skinned numpty like Hughes who’d leave as soon as Spurs or the Sky Four come calling.

The wally with the brolly – with/ without the fake Dutch accent? If true which one will turn up for his interview?

Randy’s credability is on the line with this one,he’s already made one crap appointment,he’d better get this one right !
On a lighter note McLaren must have the silliest haircut since Bobby Charlton !

It would be wonderful if managers like McClaren were employed at any Premiership club.
Thus making is easier for the Wolves.

I think Schteve Mclarrrren Would be a great asset to the Premier league … Well at least for all the other clubs he would. Villa need him, AVFC is run by a Yank who ain’t got aclue. They only look after corporate a Villa Park .. not the real fans… Come on randy sign him up soon. Lets all have a laugh

PLEASE,PLEASE appoint him give us all another loff

he would be great

After the highs of Ancelloti and to a lesser degree Hughes, we are kicked in the teeth with this ridiculous suggestion. I presume it’s a joke…but then I though Houllier was a joke too

Charlie, it doesn’t seem that long since Middlesbrough fans were throwing their season tickets at McClaren.
Yes he won the League Cup, but he spent a fortune, and they were relegated not long after he left.
I was against his appointment as England manager, but then, when he got the job, I did think he showed some courage in dropping Beckham. But then, as soon as he was under pressure, he backed down and brought Beckham back. A sign of a truly weak manager.
If I was to name the three people I would like to manage Villa, McClaren and Roberto Martinez would be in there.
The third member? Avram Grant.
No, no and no.
Why don’t we go for an up-and-coming manager? Somebody like Owen Coyle, for example?
