Barry Bannan eyes a Scotland spot
Wednesday 25th May 2011, 9:40AM BST.
Villa midfielder Barry Bannan is hoping to use Scotland’s Nations Cup clash with Wales as a stepping stone towards establishing himself as an international regular.
Bannan could win his fourth cap in tonight’s game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, after making his debut against Brazil last November.
And the 21-year-old will go out all guns blazing after admitting he is spurred on by the fear he will not do enough to be selected next time.
He said: “You’ve got to really try and impress because you think you might not get called up for the next game.
“There is a bit of pressure on it but I enjoy all of that. It is another chance for me to try and cement my place for when the qualifiers come round, so I am just going to do my best and hopefully that is good enough.
“Wales have got a few players playing in the Premier League, so it is a good test for me personally as well and I think it is going to be a good tournament.”
