Nigel Reo-Coker could stay at Villa
Thursday 28th April 2011, 11:16AM BST.
Contract rebel Nigel Reo-Coker today dropped a hint that his future could yet be at Villa after being impressed by the ambition shown by the club in the transfer market.
The tough-tackling midfielder had looked set to leave on a free transfer in the summer with his current deal set to expire.
But, since manager Gerard Houllier arrived at the club, Reo-Coker has been given a new lease of life on the pitch and been a regular starter under the Frenchman.
And the 26-year-old admitted the arrival of players like Darren Bent, who joined for £24million in January, suggests that Villa can match his ambitions.
Reo-Coker said: “It is very positive. I think the club is heading in the right direction.
“There is nothing more and nothing less to say than the club is going in the right direction with signing players like Darren Bent.
“The manager and the chairman are showing how ambitious and how serious they are taking things forward at the football club.
“He is a great goal poacher and his goalscoring record is phenomenal. You only have to look at his record from all the clubs he has been at to see that. I think he is only nine or 10 goals away from scoring 100 goals in the Premier League.
“I have been fortunate enough to know Darren from a young age, having played with him at England under-21 level, and he is a fantastic footballer.”
