Reo-Coker’s admission on Villa boss
Tuesday 26th April 2011, 11:31AM BST.
Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has admitted the absence of manager Gerard Houllier has had a major impact on everyone in the dressing room.
Houllier is recovering after being rushed to hospital with chest pains last week and Reo-Coker is one of several players who are planning to visit the Frenchman over the next few days.
The 26-year-old was shocked by the news of Houllier’s health problems but revealed a determination within the squad to end the season strongly for the Villa boss.
Reo-Coker said: “It has been a difficult time for everyone, with the manager being in a position like this with his health.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back sooner rather than later. It is a difficult situation for the boys and everyone is very sad for the situation he is in.
“It is at times like this that sometimes football has to take a back seat – there is a situation where someone’s health is at stake.
“It is more than football in this case, it is a life matter and we just wish him the best and hopefully we will see him soon.
“We know how passionate he is and we know the principles he has and everything like that and all we can do is try and go out and put in performance and win.
“We have to be professional and keep winning for him.”
