Bosses showing support for Houllier

Bosses Roy Hodgson and Mick McCarthy have sent their best wishes to Gerard Houllier as the Villa boss continues his recovery from his latest health scare.

Albion head coach Hodgson and Wolves manager Mick McCarthy joined the chorus of good wishes for the Villa chief, who is a good friend of both bosses.

And Hodgson believes the chest pains that forced Houllier into hospital on Wednesday night were partly a result of the Frenchman’s devotion to his job.

“He is the most generous person with his time of anyone I have come across in football,” said Hodgson. “He is one of the hardest working managers of all time.

“I’m sure the amount of work he has taken on his plate will at least have contributed to the fact he has fallen unwell.”

McCarthy added: “It’s a brilliant environment and we all want to do it and it’s a hugely rewarding job.

“But when it’s going badly it can be tough and put stress on you and you take all the problems of the football club with you — the fans, players, staff, you feel responsible for all of it.

“I just hope he’s fine because he’s a good pal of mine from years ago.”
