Gary McAllister takes charge of Villa
Thursday 21st April 2011, 11:41AM BST.
Villa today confirmed that assistant boss Gary McAllister will take charge of their Premier League clash after manager Gerard Houllier was admitted to hospital.
Houllier, who has a history of heart problems, fell ill last night and was taken to the Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth II hospital where he is today undergoing further tests.
The 63-year-old Frenchman is described by the club as being in a “comfortable” position but will not be in the dugout for the visit of Stoke.
Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner said: “I spoke with Gerard this morning, as did Gary before he took training, and he sounded very positive.
“I’ve also received a lot of good wishes from fans and I would like to thank them for their kind thoughts in wishing Gerard a speedy recovery.
“I will see him this afternoon, along with Gary, and we will pass on the fans’ messages. I know they will mean a lot to him.
“We would ask everybody to respect his privacy and that of his family at this time.”
