Stiliyan Petrov still wanted at Villa
Monday 21st February 2011, 10:00AM GMT.
Villa manager Gerard Houllier has told captain Stiliyan Petrov that he still has a part to play but will not guarantee him a place in the starting line-up.
The Bulgaria international was left out of a Premier League squad for the first time against Blackpool and faces a battle for his place since the arrival of Jean Makoun and Michael Bradley.
And Houllier has warned the skipper that he cannot consider himself the first name on the team-sheet.
He said: “Petrov is in my plans, but if he says ‘I want to play every game’ I will say ‘no.’ He is the captain so he must lead by example.
“I’m very pleased with his attitude. He’s been influential in me changing the philosophy we have here.
“He has still got a lot to give.”
