Villa want me claims Jose Enrique
Friday 18th February 2011, 10:56AM GMT.
Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique has claimed Villa are set to fight it out with Liverpool and Manchester United for his signature.
The Spaniard has threatened to quit the club unless they reinvest into the team the £35million they received from selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool.
Toon boss Alan Pardew confirmed this week Enrique has refused to discuss extending his contract – which expires next year – until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old joined Newcastle from Villarreal for £6.5million in 2007.
He said: “It is flattering that Liverpool are interested, I’ve also heard that Manchester United and Aston Villa have asked about me.
“They are both big teams and I’m not closing the door on anyone.”
Back at Villa, Habib Beye is set to reject a loan move to Ipswich to fight for his place.
But the misfit is unlikely to feature with Luke Young returning to training – as Carlos Cuellar was ruled out for a month.
Defender Young has been sidelined since December with a knee injury but could be fit to travel to Bolton in two weeks.
Villa boss Gerard Houllier confirmed Cuellar will be out for a month with a hamstring injury.
He said: “Luke Young trained for the first time fully this week. He will definitely need a practice game, but we have one lined up.
“Blackburn I think will be too soon but it could be very soon after that.
“Cuellar, it’s going to be four weeks as it’s a hamstring tear.”
