Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Albion hunt Mbokani and John Carew
Thursday 6th January 2011, 12:00PM GMT.
Albion could turn to Monaco forward Dieumerci Mbokani after their hopes of signing John Carew were hit by Villa’s own striker shortage.
The Baggies have held encouraging talks with Villa over a loan deal for the out-of-favour Carew and a switch to the Hawthorns could still happen.
But Emile Heskey’s red card in last night’s Villa defeat to Sunderland has landed him with a three-match ban, leaving Gerard Houllier is reluctant to let the Norwegian leave at the moment before he has time to recruit a replacement.
That could force Albion to turn to alternative targets and they have added DR Congo international Mbokani to their list of potential signings.
Mbokani is a possible target for Hawthorns head coach Roberto Di Matteo but he could face competition from Premier League rivals West Ham, Birmingham and Everton, while German side Wolfsburg are also said to be monitoring the situation.
The 25-year-old joined Monaco from Standard Liege for £7million just last summer but has failed to settle in the French league and his club are now willing to let him leave.
Monaco are keen for a straight cash or player swap deal, but most of his Premier League suitors favour an initial loan agreement.
Wolfsburg, however, should have cash to spend as they hunt a replacement for Edin Dzeko, who is poised to clinch a £27million move to Manchester City.

We need PROVEN PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE.
We are currently going through our first injury problem of the season and we have lost the last 5 games and dropped to within two points of the bottom 3. Vile and the Dingles have had to cope with this all season and we should be dealing with it better.
We need a leader who has experience at this level and can help to stop the rot, a guy who couldnt settle in France probably won’t settle here either.

I thought all my Christmas’s had come at once last night, when I looked at the regional sport on BBC teletext to read ‘ WBA keeper to join Bristol Rovers’. I yelled ‘ Yes there is a God. Hallelujah praise the Lord! ‘ Then on closer examination I read it was Luke Daniels. I was crest fallen and went out and got drunk. Just to make things worse I dropped a full pint while thinking about Scotty.

John Carew has yet to sign, however a deal is more likely by the hour.

I wasn’t listening then but have since and they’ve only been saying we’re interested.
On the subject of Talksport. H&J said today that it was 20 years ago today Sgt Pepper… no forget that, it was 20 years ago today that we lost to Woking, Tim Buzaglio and all that. Anyone complaining about the current set up at the club should look back to those dark days. Those of us that stayed in the ground at the end thought that we’d hit rock bottom. How wrong we were, in the years that followed we looked back at the glory years under Bryan Talbot before beginning to get our act together again about 11 years ago.
BTW. Our team that day was Rees, Shakespeare, Harbey, Bradley, Roberts, Strodder, Ford, West, Bannister, McNally, Robson (Gary not Bryan.)

You might need some prozac for that. It’s all well and good asking for Premier League experience- and to some degree I completely agree with what you’re saying- but try going through a list of Premiership strikers currently out of favour with their clubs and finding a realistic target that’s anything better than we’ve got. I’ve tried and I can’t find many. The likes of Zaki, Picquionne, Dindane and Odemwingie (lest we forget) have come and done jobs for their respective teams, I appreciate that for every winner there’s a failure but perhaps it’s a gamble we have to take.

At least try and disguise yourself.

Funny you should say that because I just heard Scott Carson got home after training this morning and hurled a barrel load of abuse at his wife and hounded her until she packed her bags and left while he was thinking of you.

May be its my naturally sunny disposition, but why are people are panicing? I still believe we will easily stay up, we know we can play, we know we have had some very bad luck with injuries and decisions, more than our fair share, we have not fluked lucky 1-0s against teams that are already on losing streaks, and not at their best, like some other teams have, when we play we play well, lets face it , 6 points from Wolves, and 10 points from all other games and we should be ok. No problem.
in RDM we trust.

8. The difference is we are suffering from five players being out injured Wolves have had 12 out at one stage and Villa 9 out also from the start of the season.
Both clubs are starting to have players return now and once they get fit they will both pull away from the bottom.
Strength in depth will catch up with us and Blackpool and one of us will go down along with Wigan and West Ham.

2. Terrible M, long time. How are ya? Ive not come on hear to gloat.,,,,,,,,,,,, Well yes i have actually. Looks like this season could be a game of two halves. Wolves struggling first half while the mighty Baggys fly high. ( think we might have to dust our passports off lads ) ( that one still makes me smile) But now for the second half. Only 1 point above our cloggers, and falling fast. Told ya, it dont matter where you are in october, its May that counts!! And you aint even played WOLVES yet. ( wish it was sat ) As i said at the start of the season, if WOLVES stay up i hope the baggys do to. Carew would be a great signing for you. can he play in goal. .LW.

Wolves have never had 12 players injured, either you are Laughing Wolf or your season ticket’s near him. They had 6 or 7 with others returning for about 4 weeks of the season, that’s 16 weeks where their injuries have been no worse than anybody else’s.
Villa have a squad of 20+ kids, therefore if they can’t cope with injuries, that’s their own fault.
I’m surprised you’re not out celebrating your ‘Unforgettable night’ last night. You wouldn’t think they were in the midst of a dogfight would you. Cantello made a good point, I wonder if we’ll have a front page special when we win next, I certainly don’t remember one from the Arsenal game.

I think we have too many players who cannot be counted on at this level. When you are newly promoted there is so much enthusiasm and energy and many clubs over the years have been relegated because of the form in the 2nd half of the season. A few defeats and morale and confidence is low, injuries and suspensions start to mount and only a few teams have done enough to stay up.
From what I have seen recently we are heading the same way as Hull and Burnley but I am convinced that JP is satisfied with that.

We are bottom of the form league and according to recent stats we are 3rd in the division for the long-ball after Stoke and Blackburn.

12 lonely- you’re right, things have turned around. In the past, you accused Albion of being lucky, and whinged about us getting points because of OWN goals(right?).It seems that wolves are now having unbelievable luck. You play Blues,Liverpool and Chelsea when they are having their worst results and drop in form for years, and even with Man.City, their best player by far,Tevez, goes back to Argentina just before the wolves game, and comes back just in time to face Albion! Oh well,at least all those wolves fans demanding Mick should be sacked, and saying your squad are rubbish, suddenly decide everything is great, they’re all heroes! Now which way is the wind blowing today……
Report abuse
12) L.W. I appreciate that you wish to play us now, why wouldn’t you? your only results come from teams on a bad run, or missing key players, (Man City no Tevez, Liverpool so bad almost got the manager the sack, Chelsea worst premiership run they have ever had, and still might get the manager the sack, and yet you still need a o.g. etc etc) lets not forget you are still in your rightful position, below us, where you have been all season! Dont think the snow will save you this time come February 22nd!

I don’t understand why we keep wanting to sign African players. The African Cup of Nations is every two years and as it is we’ll lose Odemwingie, Mulumbu and Tchoyi. Hopefully Meite will be gone before the next one. We don’t need to get more players who we will lose for a few months at a time.

You hope your team have will have the same kahooners when you surly enter the bottom 3. Good Luck this, bad luck that. The FACT remains that the Baggys have had good luck while also playing well, while WOLVES have had bad luck while also playing badly, But now only 1 point separates us!!!! 26 only the lonely- over the years I’ve been through many highs and lows with Albion, from winning the F.A.Cup,League(Carling)Cup,and being one of the top 3 clubs in the country under Big Ron,down to third tier relegation under Bobby Gould(although thankfully not fourth division and near bankruptcy like another local club).I’m afraid stress and broken dreams simply don’t affect me these days, especially as Albion are ‘newcomers’ and were expected to be down the bottom end anyway this season. Also,I don’t recall blaming anyone else for our results(except a few dire Refereeing decisions),because we have outplayed most teams this season, created loads of chances, but not tucked enough of them away.I just find it amusing that wolves fans were always banging on about being unlucky when they lost, but winning by an own goal is down to a ‘great performance’.Anyway,as you lot keep saying, all that matters is how things are at the end of the season, and as some wolves fans are convinced Albion are down and out, let’s look at it again in four months time. After all, many wolves fans were convinced Sidwell had signed for you,but it seems they got that wrong as well…….

Just got in from a quiet night on the door in lovely Manchester, and after watching folks drink to much all night what do i find? The Rockets had a few aswell. Otherwise why would he think i want to know his life story. “Albion are newcomers” is no excuse. You lot love telling me how you are old hands at this prem league compared to WOLVES. So that dont wash. Ive noticed for a while now that when the Baggys aint doin well and WOLVES are, that you, TRBH and many others STILL bring out the ” well, you lot nearly went bust in the eighties”, and ” your ground used to have only 2 sides” stick to beat us with. yawn. I agree again with you ( twice in a week ) that it dont matter to much now its in may it counts. But when you are up to your knees in mud, as you are now. It takes a team with great character to get out of it. Not least by beating the champions to do it! I dont expect you or anyone on here to give us any credit because i am always gobing off on your pages ( and i get more bruises of you lot than i ever do on a manc door ) and dont deserve any. .LW.

26 – bad luck is when gary neville clearly takes out your CB and gets away with it (would and should have won that game) and when pablo gets sent off and concedes a very soft penalty (blackpool game) which culminates in our poor run of form and when you are having to play 4 full backs as your backline. You (Smelly Dingles) have had good luck in the way you have played both Liverpool and Chelsea at the perfect times. I watched the Liverpool game and fair play you were the better team but you weren’t anything special plus Liverpool were abysmil!!

Lonely Fellow
Where in Manchester do you drink? I live in Manchester. Remind me never to go there.
This idea that you’re on the up and we’re not is only down to perception, a matter in the mind. Ultimately we’re still ahead of you and yesterday’s games mean nothing tomorrow, so you’ve still got some catching up to do!!
With 5 of our next games being Blackpool, Blackburn, Wigan, West Ham and you lot (4 at home) and you having Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool and Bolton, I’d suggest you might want to reign the crowing in for a few weeks.
You’re also overlooking one thing. Your ‘Unforgettable nights’ down the Custard Bowl which warrant these special headlines and double page spreads are only serving to alarm the rest of the country that you’re not quite as useless as people initially thought, which diminshes the likelyhood of any more teams ‘no-showing’ against you in the future. That means you’ll have to rely on the quality of Henry, Craddock, Elokobi, Ward, Edwards and Foley to win you football matches rather than be handed them on a plate.
I admire your confidence lonely, but I’m not quite sure what it’s based on. Last night alcohol maybe. other than that is it that you are a big club (yawn), the mighty Wolves? Or is it Mad Mick’s (or is it Super Mick this week?) impressive haul of 17 wins in 87 Premiership games? There are no broke clubs to save you this time……
