Villa blow as Emile Heskey injured
Monday 27th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Villa are set to be without Emile Heskey for the trip to Manchester City after he picked up an ankle injury in the defeat to Tottenham.
Manager Gerard Houllier was today checking on the fitness of the 32-year-old striker, who limped off just before half-time after he was brought down by Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes.
Heskey has only just returned from a knee injury and the Aston Villa boss admitted they will miss the qualities of the powerful forward for the Eastlands trip.
“We lack a bit of presence in front of goal at times,” said Houllier. “We missed that after we lost Emile. I think he was fouled and we should have been given a penalty.
“He twisted his ankle when the goalkeeper fouled him. I don’t think he will be fit for the Man City game now.”
Marc Albrighton pulled a late goal back and believes Aston Villa are involved in a relegation battle.
“I think we’ve got to look at it and say yes it is – the table doesn’t lie,” said Albrighton. “It’s going to be tough to get out of it. But there’s nobody that can put that right other than the players.
“We’ve just got to stick together as a group and hopefully we’ll pull something out of the bag.”
