Gabby Agbonlahor lifts Villa injury gloom
Wednesday 24th November 2010, 11:27AM GMT.
Gabby Agbonlahor softened another cruel injury blow for Villa by assuring fans he is finally ready to hit top gear.
Agbonlahor, having suffered an injury-tormented start to the campaign, has now played three games in a row and admits to “feeling as fit as I have done all season.”
Villa fans will be hoping for a slice of Agbonlahor at his best after hearing that rising star Marc Albrighton will miss a month of action after an appendicitis operation.
Albrighton, star performer in the previous home clash with Manchester United, will be a big miss for this weekend’s visit of Arsenal and takes to 12 the number of first-teamers manager Gerard Houllier is missing.
But at least there is good news from Agbonlahor, who said: “I’ve got three games out of the way and I’m feeling fit. I feel as fit as I have had all season. I’m raring to go.
“When I scored those five goals in five games last season, that was the best I have felt in my career. My confidence was high.
“I felt fit and I felt injury-free. I felt good. I didn’t feel like I was going to stop scoring. But you go through those spells.
“It’s been frustrating this season. I didn’t start the first game of the season. You know it’s going to be a frustrating start to the campaign when that happens.
“But I feel good now. I want to stay fit, keep playing and keep my place in the team.”
Albrighton was taken ill just before Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Blackburn with a club statement confirming he will be “out of action for three to four weeks.”
