Villa sweat on Nigel Reo-Coker injury
Monday 8th November 2010, 2:00PM GMT.
Villa were today sweating on the outcome of tests on Nigel Reo-Coker after he became the seventh player struck down by their injury curse.
The midfielder was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham with a knee problem when he fell awkwardly after challenging Jonathan Greening for a high ball.
Reo-Coker joins Stiliyan Petrov – the man he replaced as skipper – Emile Heskey, John Carew, Gabby Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann and Fabian Delph on the list of casualties.
Manager Gerard Houllier said: “I don’t think Nigel will be able to play for two or three weeks. There was a challenge with Jonathan Greening.
“Jonathan fell on his ankle and twisted his ankle. Because he blocked Nigel’s ankle he twisted his knee.
“We need to know the gravity of it, whether it is a grade one or grade two.”
Marc Albrighton had given Villa the lead until Brede Hangeland’s cruel equaliser at the death.
Albrighton said: “Everybody was heartbroken.”
Fulham manager Mark Hughes claimed after the game that Villa defender Luke Young ‘went over the top’ in the challenge which forced Carlos Salcido off.
Hughes said: “It doesn’t look good.
“I’ve seen the tackle on video and the lad’s gone over the top and I would imagine it’s ankle ligament damage.”
