Ashley Young’s thoughts on derby
Saturday 30th October 2010, 10:46AM BST.
Ashley Young has vowed to prove his commitment to Villa by inspiring them to victory against Birmingham.
Young, whose existing deal runs out in the summer of 2012, revealed last week he has put contract talks on hold until the end of the season.
The England star has reassured fans he simply wants to concentrate on his football until the end of the campaign and is determined to “repay” their support by beating Blues in the Second City derby tomorrow.
“There’s nothing to say about me departing at all,” he said.
“I’ve said all I’m doing is concentrating on my football. I don’t want to be distracted by anything else. I’ve not said I’m leaving and I’m not taking my focus off football. I’ve always said the fans have been brilliant since I’ve been here.
“The fans have always been singing my name since I’ve been here. That’s amazing for me and, from a player’s point of view, you just want to go out there and repay them.
“Fingers crossed, come tomorrow, I can go out there and repay them big time in the derby. They don’t need to worry about anything with me.”
Young insisted he has not been unsettled by the departures of Gareth Barry and James Milner in the previous two summers.

This lad is the real deal compared to the other departures. Villa had the best out of barry, and he deserved a transfer after years of service, however i was shocked to see milner depart after a short period at villa he could have been a great at the villa but good luck to him at city.Ash will re-sign if the ambition with villa is there, we need to win a trophy this year to show players we are moving forward and more importantly the fans as it us that pay towards the wages.
