Gabby Agbonlahor a doubt for Villa

Tuesday 28th September 2010, 10:57AM BST.

Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor today emerged as a doubt for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham – but John Carew and Richard Dunne are set to be fit.

Manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed striker Agbonlahor is struggling with a groin problem for the White Hart Lane clash, the latest injury blow in a frustrating start to the season for the England international.

The Brummie striker has already been hampered by calf problems this term, making just four starts for the claret and blues, two of which he has been forced off before half-time in.

Houllier said: “My concern is Gabby because he has again felt his groin. The scan showed nothing so we will have to investigate a bit more.

“The problem with his calves has gone, now it’s gone up his body.”

There was better news on Dunne (knee) and Carew, who missed the Wolves clash after damaging his back in the weights room.

Houllier also admitted Ciaran Clark could be struggling to reclaim his place on the bench after recovering from a dead leg.

The Villa boss added: “I think Richard will start training later today – don’t forget he’s kept his fitness all right – he will join full training tomorrow with the rest of the lads.

“John will train tomorrow, he got injured doing some weights. Ciaran Clark trained only once before the Wolves game, that’s why he was left out.

“I don’t think he will be in contention for Tottenham, because I think Richard Dunne will be back.”
