Aaron Rai in pole position at Qatar Masters

Wolverhampton golfer Aaron Rai has put himself in pole position for success at the Qatar Masters, following an opening round score of 65.

Rai, who was born in Wolverhampton and raised in Perton, shot seven under-par alongside Eddie Pepperell and Gregory Havret at the Doha-based event, leaving him joint-first.

The 22-year-old railed off five birdies and a sensational eagle on the 18th in his first round, and will hope to replicate that performance in his second run.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire's Robert Rock finished his round two under-par, leaving him joint-42nd in the Qatari capital.
