Collymore played over 50 games at Forest during his spell as a player and met with owner Fawaz Al Hasawi to discuss the role.

However, after meeting Al Hasawi and reflecting on the meeting, the 46-year-old has confirmed he no longer wants to take on a role at the club.

Posting on Twitter, the former footballer turned pundit gave his reasons for his withdrawal.

"After posting my conclusions on the meeting with Fawaz last night, had time to reflect on what was said and perhaps more importantly the views from supporters, I've decided to withdraw from any involvement in this process." He said.

"I'm not convinced change will happen quickly or thoroughly enough under Fawaz ownership of the club, as I believe there is a clique around him that are more interested in serving their own interests rather than those of the club.

"Something I was prepared to navigate and deal with down the line, but not anymore."

Forest currently sit 19th in the Championship, just five points above the relegation zone, but have been troubled off the pitch following takeover uncertainty and the sacking of manager Philippe Montanier.

On top of this, the high-profile sales of Oliver Burke and Henri Lansbury have also irked fans, who have protested against Al Hasawi's ownership.
