Stourbridge FC prepare for promotion defining fixtures after FA Cup heroics

Stourbridge are ready to put FA Cup heroics on the back-burner as they embark on a run of fixtures which may prove vital to their Evo-Stik League Premier Division promotion hopes.

Tomorrow's home game with Spennymoor begins a four-game stretch, prior to next month's cup showdown with Wycombe, which includes a Boxing Day meeting with leaders Rushall Olympic and a trip to Hednesford.

And though the club and the town are on a high after Tuesday's historic 1-0 win over Northampton Town, Hackett believes players will have no trouble re-focusing their efforts on the bread and butter of the league.

"These are four big games and they are four tough games," he said. "We have got to try and get as many points as we can.

"Tuesday night was fantastic but for now the FA Cup will be very much on the back-burner. We need to concentrate on the league."

Stour have won their last six in all competitions and are unbeaten in the league in almost two months, winning five of their last six. It is a run which sees them lie ninth in the table, with multiple games in hand on all but two of the teams above.

"Games in hand are irrelevant if you don't win them, this is a very tough division," said Hackett, who hopes to have a fully fit squad available.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division tomorrow (3pm), it's second-bottom against top as Rushall Olympic look to maintain their three-point gap at the summit over Buxton with a victory at struggling Skelmersdale United.

Fourth-placed Hednesford Town are among those in the chasing pack, five points back from the Pics, and they take their unblemished December league record to 13th-placed Grantham Town.

Stafford Rangers, who lie in 17th, have played fewer matches than anyone else in the Premier Division – following Tuesday's postponed clash at Ilkeston Town, they will hope to play their first game in 11 days when they go to play-off-chasing Warrington Town.

Halesowen Town have slipped down to 19th and will hope to reverse that trend when they make the journey to 15th-placed Coalville Town.

Chasetown's push for the First Division South play-offs has been dented by a winless December to date, but they remain in the hunt in seventh and will hope to earn their first victory of the month at home to 10th-placed Leek Town.
