The 34-year-old, from Bentley, was honoured at the National Football Museum in Manchester in honour of her 102 caps for England as well as a long career at clubs like Wolves and Everton.

Unitt, who attended the awards with her dad Terry, a former semi-pro player who first introduced her to the game, admitted: "When you see the names who are in there already it doesn't seem real that I'm alongside them. The likes of George Best and David Beckham are in there.

"It was a big shock when I found out I was going to be in there too.

"When you start out and break into the side at somewhere likes Wolves then get in the England set-up and get a cap, then you target 20 caps, or 50 or a hundred; that's in your own hands.

"But something like this was a total shock to me when I was nominated.

"I feel really humbled."
