Tommy Langford's British title fight is delayed

'Baggies Bomber' Tommy Langford has suffered another blow in his quest to become British middleweight champion by his title fight being postponed.

Langford had been due to vie with Sam Sheedy for the vacant belt at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff a week on Saturday (October 22),

writes Craig Birch.

But the show has been pushed back to Saturday November 26, due to circumstances to bouts elsewhere on the card.

Injuries to WBO world middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders and British super welterweight titlist Liam Williams has ruled them out of the original date.

Promoter Frank Warren has subsequently decided to push his bill back a month, meaning a frustrating wait for Langford.

The 27-year-old has already seen his fight left in limbo once, after champion Chris Eubank Jnr withdrew citing an elbow injury and relinquished the strap.

Sheedy took the opportunity to go for glory on a BoxNation-televised card at shorter notice, after winning an eliminator against Redditch's Andrew Robinson through a points split decision.

Both co-challengers are now left kicking their heels and re-evaluating their training camps, with Langford forlorn at the latest setback.

He said on Facebook: "Absolutely gutted that the show has been delayed. It's absolutely out of my hands and I'm devastated.

"Full refunds are available from the point of purchase. I know it doesn't solve all of the money (my supporters) spent on travel and hotels and, for this, I'm extremely sorry.

"If people can move hotels, I'm pleading they do so and can come to the new date, as the original fight tickets will still be valid. Your continued support means the world. Please stick behind me."

Warren added: "We have, obviously, not had a lot of luck with this event, first of all being let down by Chris Eubank Jnr and now the two main fights on a card falling out on the same day.

"We have no choice but to postpone the card to a month later, so everyone is given time to recover. I apologise to the fans for any inconvenience this may cause.

"It's extremely frustrating, as the event is already essentially sold out and we were all geared up for a cracking night of boxing on October 22.

"I am particularly gutted for Tommy, who has sold around 2,000 tickets, but I'm sure his support will, no doubt, still be out in force on November 26."

Tickets for the rescheduled Langford versus Sheedy are still available by calling the Box Office on 029 2022 4488 or at www.motorpointarenacardiff.co.uk.
