The assistant boss, who has enjoyed a glittering career as a player and coach, believes the current crop of Saddlers' players is the most driven he has ever seen. And O'Kelly insists that team spirit will ensure Dean Smith's side are competing at the right end of the table throughout the 2015/16 campaign.

"I truly believe we have something special bubbling," the 58-year-old said.

"We are a club that has to develop players. We have to get in rough edges and we have to polish them up.

"But if you get a group of them coming through together then you end up with a team. And I believe we have that team.

"The way the players have come back for pre-season - they are all it.

"As coaches we are always driving them but this group drive each other. As a group they have come back as fit as ever and they are the most driven I have ever seen.

"That is what excites me."
