Wolves reject Fulham's Kevin McDonald bid

Wolves are set to reject a £1.25million bid from Fulham for key midfielder Kevin McDonald.

Reports from London claim the Cottagers have made a second offer for the Scot, with boss Kit Symons a keen admirer.

But Wolves are expected to dismiss the bid out of hand, with boss Kenny Jackett keen to make the 26-year-old a key figure in next season's Championship campaign.

McDonald, whose current contract expires next summer, has made 91 appearances for Wolves since moving from Sheffield United in 2013.

He was the club's only ever-present last season as Jackett's team missed out narrowly on the Championship play-offs. He had previously played a pivotal role in their promotion from League One.

Fulham signed Tom Cairney last week from Blackburn and Symons is reportedly keen to pair him with McDonald in the heart of midfield.

Midfielder Michael Jacobs, meanwhile, has been challenged to claim Bakary Sako's vacant left wing position as he and George Saville were offered fresh starts.

Both Jacobs and Saville were dispatched on loan last season having fallen out of favour at Molineux. But Jackett said both will start 2015-16 with a clean slate, as will fellow midfielder Lee Evans.

Jackett said: "With Sako not here and quite frankly unlikely to return, it does open up the left-hand side of the pitch for which (Jacobs) is a player who can play in that position.

"I'm in no rush to necessarily let Michael go before he can put his name on that left side position.

"I'm looking closely at the under-21s but at present, without Sako here, the wide left position is up for grabs."

Jacobs played a starring role in Wolves' League One title-winning campaign having joined from Derby County. But he was restricted to 13 starts last season and went to Blackpool on loan in March.

Saville, a £1million signing from Chelsea, started five games before going to Bristol City.
