Five things we learned from the weekend

The end of the football season is reaching its climax and the weekend's action provided us with some big talking points.

From Wolves continuing their play-off push to Villa's costly errors against Manchester City, as well as a dull stalemate at the Hawthorns between Albion and Liverpool, Jamie Brassington discusses the weekend football results.

Richard Stearman of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates at full-time.

1, Wolves grabbed a 1-0 away win at Wigan to take them one step closer to play-off glory, so can their never-say-die attitude see them achieve back-to-back promotions?

Boss Kenny Jackett reckons Wolves would be 'very unlucky' not to make the play-offs now after taking their top-six charge to the final day.

Wolves could make unwanted history. If they amass another three points before the end of the season and not secure a play-off position, they would be the team with the highest points tally to miss out.

2, Have West Brom become too reliant on Saido Berahino's goals?

Despite the England Under-21 international netting 18 times for the Baggies this season, he hasn't scored since March 3 during the loss 2-1 to Aston Villa.

The Baggies held Liverpool to a hard-fought draw at the Hawthorns on Saturday, but they are in need of goals from somewhere. Victor Anichebe endured a poor game and Brown Ideye has been in poor form.

Walsall goalkeeper Richard O Donnell, who was dropped for the game.

3, Will Walsall's No 1 be at the club at the end of the season?

Saddlers boss Dean Smith opted for youth over experience when he fielded youngster Craig MacGillivray between the sticks ahead of first-choice goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell.

He had made 105 consecutive appearances since arriving at the Banks's Stadium in July 2013 but was dropped for Saturday's 2-0 home win over Oldham.

O'Donnell is out of contract at the end of the season and yet to indicate whether he will accept a new deal, after months of negotiations.

4, Villa have enjoyed a purple patch under their new manager, but will costly errors threaten to sink the Tim Sherwood ship prematurely?

A last-minute error cost Villa a well-deserved draw at home to current champions Manchester City after coming from two goals behind.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan mis-kicked a back pass that found Sergio Aguero, who tapped in an open goal. Villa lie two points above the relegation zone.

5, The Premier League's PFA Player of the Year was announced at the weekend and Chelsea starlet Eden Hazard received the crown.

It was well deserved, too, as the Belgian has been the leading figure in Chelsea's title charge.

He has been involved in 32 per cent of Chelsea's 65 Premier League goals this season, scoring 13 and setting up eight.

Chelsea's team have also been recognised for a fantastic season, with six of their players in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
