Darren Fletcher: Albion must pull together

Captain Darren Fletcher has called on Albion to pull together after warning they are now in a real battle against the drop.

The skipper believes it is time for players to look at themselves after a run of three straight defeats which has left them looking nervously over their shoulders.

Fletcher scored his first goal for the Baggies following his February move from Manchester United in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Leicester.

But he said: "It counts for nothing because we lost the game.

"I'm not even thinking about it really. The most important thing is getting points and we have lost another game. That is three in a row. We need to take a look at ourselves as individuals and as a team and realise we are in a real battle."

Fletcher, who took over the captain's armband from Chris Brunt, admits it is part of his responsibility to ensure things quickly improve.

"We have a lot of leaders at this club, a lot of big characters in the dressing room but we all have to come together," he added. "It is part of my job to do that.

"I know those lads in the dressing room, what they are capable of.

"They are hurting right now but we have to learn quickly, come together as a team and get behind each other and play for each other from now until the end of the season."

Saturday's defeat was the Baggies' second loss on the spin at the Hawthorns after they were thumped 4-1 by QPR the week before.

Fletcher added: "The performances had been good, the commitment and everything at home had been going fantastic," he said. "We have just not reached those levels, it is as simple as that. That's what happens when you drop small percentages in this league and take your foot off the gas.

"On Saturday, we were 2-1 up and inviting pressure and not having the composure to play. I think that is what's cost us."
