VIDEO: Sally Gunnell on GB's Olympic hopes

Athletics great Sally Gunnell has warned not to expect too much gold medal success for Great Britain at next year's Olympic Games.

Gunnell, the 400m hurdles champion at the Barcelona games in 1992, said Team GB are unlikely to repeat the level of achievements enjoyed at London 2012.

The host nation were behind only the United States and China in the medals table three summers ago, with 29 golds among the total haul of 65.

But Gunnell, one of just five British gold medallists in Barcelona, said: "It's going to be very difficult in Rio.

"There's something about a home games that makes you rise above everything, so I really hope we don't put too many expectations on everybody.

"We'll be back to a 'normal' Olympics but we'll still do well."

Gunnell believes a big hope is emerging heptathlon star Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who she feels could be too strong for defending champion Jessica Ennis-Hill.

"I think if Kat is 100 per cent, anybody in the world will struggle to beat her."
