And captain Danny Batth urged his team-mates to win promotion for the former owner.

Head coach Jackett joined the board, assistant head coach Joe Gallen and virtually the entire first-team squad among 600 mourners at St Peter's Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton and many thousands outside celebrating Sir Jack's life yesterday.

More than 20 former Wolves players spanning six decades were also in attendance paying their respects, along with ex-managers Dave Jones and Colin Lee.

"It was a superbly organised service with some fantastic tributes as well," said Jackett.

"Some were very touching, and very funny. He was such an important man who meant so much to so many people.

"The whole afternoon was very emotional and the fantastic turnout showed what he meant to so many people.

"He has left a fantastic legacy."

Batth believes delivering promotion this season would be a fitting tribute to the memory of Sir Jack.

"The first promotion he had in 2003 was one of the happiest moments of his life," said the skipper.

"He'll be proud of that and if any team can emulate that, it would be great.

"It's tough for us as players because he did so much for the club.

"All we can do is keep the momentum going and try to pay back a bit of his loyalty and sacrifice that he made for the club and do the best we can to achieve our aim."

Thousands watched the funeral on a big screen in Queen Square.

"The size of the turnout showed how much he meant to the city and showed so much support for what he did," Batth said.

"People will be in mourning for a while and it's a big loss to the city."

of Wolverhampton to lose such a great man."

But Batth reckons Sir Jack's legacy is there for all to see after he built the training ground and rebuilt Molineux.

"He is what the club stands for - a great man who generously gave charitable donations to so many worthy causes, and not least to the club when we needed it most," he added.
