Albion new-boy Darren Fletcher says he must prove himself all over again after swapping Manchester United's quest for titles for the Baggies' battle against relegation.

Fletcher insists he is ready for the Premier League survival scrap after arriving on Monday in a free-transfer beat-the-deadline deal.

But he admits his achievements at Old Trafford, which include five Premier League titles and a Champions League winner's medal, count for little now.

"Everything you've done in the past is all well and good but you've got to go out and prove yourself in every game and this is a new challenge for me so I am going to have to go and prove myself to the fans," said the 31-year-old.

"My aim is to progress the club, to get us back up the league, finishing in the top half and things like that.

"I want good cup runs and to play as many games as I can and earn the respect of the fans and hopefully they will enjoy me as a player in the time I'm here.

"It is a different challenge but it's one that I'm well aware of. I know the position that the club are in right now and I don't want to be down there.

"We want to stay in the league and push up the league.

"I'm more than aware of that, I know what's in store and I'm here to help and to get the team where I think they belong."

And Fletcher, who was Albion's only deadline-day addition, revealed Baggies boss Tony Pulis played a key role in luring him to The Hawthorns.

"I know of West Brom's history and I have been here many times playing but the manager was a big pull," said Fletcher.

"We had a few conversations and he really sold the club and his ideas to me. It's great when a manager really wants you."

and lets that be known and every conversation we had was fantastic.

"I have great respect for him and he was someone I really wanted to play for but I knew I was coming to a great club as well."
