The former FA Cup hero and skipper had been in charge of the Scholars for two and a half years.

Harris was captain during their historic FA Cup run of 2005-06, where they were beatenin a 1st round replay by League One Oldham.

A club statement said: "Results this season post September have been poor, including a run of just two victories in the last seventeen league fixtures; this has ultimately led to Craig's tenure as manager coming to an end.

"The management committee at the club would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Craig for all his hard work and commitment, and would like to wish him all the best for the future.

"However, the club feel that a change of manager & direction is necessary at this time, as they search to position themselves for a promotion challenge once again.

"The club will look to appoint a new manager as soon as possible."
