Jez Moxey hails Nouha Dicko boost for Wolves

Jez Moxey today hailed the news that Nouha Dicko will stay with Wolves next month after the striker was left out of Mali's squad for the African Cup of Nations.

The surprise announcement handed Wolves' chief executive a massive boost, with the club ready to move in the January transfer window to cover the loss of their hitman.

Head coach Kenny Jackett will, however, have to do without top scorer Bakary Sako for the tournament, which runs from January 17-February 8, after the wide-man was included in the 23-man Mali squad.

Moxey, though, was delighted that Dicko would be staying put at Molineux.

"It is fortunate for Wolves and we are pleased to have him available. It's a big boost for us," said Moxey.

Had both players been selected, Jackett could have been without the influential duo for home clashes against Blackpool, Charlton and Reading at home on January 17, 24 and February 7 respectively as well as trips to Blackburn and Bolton Wanderers on January 11 and 31.

Wolves' attack will still be affected with Sako, who has netted seven times from 24 appearances this season, set to miss potentially all of those matches depending on how far Mali progress.

Jackett said: "We have to make sure our squad and team is capable of continuing to be successful. We are confident we can do it.

"They have been big players for us in our forward line. Their good form has coincided a lot with our good form.

"Bakary is a player we are going to miss in January but it's about making sure that along the front line we've got as many possibilities as we can have.

"To win consistently in this league you do need options and strong ones to make sure that if you don't start the game well you certainly do finish the game well."
