Morgan fined and warned by FA for rant at referee at Molineux match

Wolves owner Steve Morgan has been fined £2,500 and warned about his future conduct by the Football Association for confronting referee Mike Jones.

Morgan had admitted to a breach of FA Rule E3 after confronting Jones following the club's 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth at Molineux on December 6.

The chairman left his seat in the director's box to remonstrate with the referee pitch-side following a string of controversial decisions, which included the sending off of Matt Doherty and Rajiv van La Parra.

Morgan later apologised to Jones by saying: "I was extremely angry and frustrated at many of his refereeing decisions, and I still am.

"However, I should not have gone pitch side to vent my frustrations."

In a statement, Wolves insisted they will make no further comment on the matter.

Jones had incensed the Wolves chief – and the Molineux crowd – with a number of controversial decisions, just days after being demoted from the Premier League for a poor display in Southampton's match with Manchester City.

Dutch winger La Parra was dismissed for violent conduct, following a collision with Bournemouth defender Steve Cook, but the card was subsequently rescinded.

Defender Doherty's suspension stood, however, after his red card for a challenge on Brett Pitman.
