Lee Evans does a David Beckham with new injury woe

Lee Evans may have to undergo surgery in what could be another injury blow to Wolves – after doing a David Beckham.

The 20-year-old midfielder has suffered a broken scaphoid and has been playing with cast for several weeks.

Evans has been experiencing some discomfort after damaging the bone between the hand and forearm on the thumb side of the wrist.

Beckham did the same injury when as England captain he fell heavily during a 2-1 victory over South Africa in May 2003.

Evans had to wait again for his Wales debut after being a non-playing member of Chris Coleman's squad that played a Euro 2016 qualifier away to Belgium last night.

"Lee Evans has a hand injury he's been playing with, with the aid of a small splint," said head coach Kenny Jackett.

"It will either clear up in the next couple of weeks or he'll need to have it operated on.

"It will only be a minor operation - it won't keep him out long."

Wolves are currently without Dave Edwards and Scott Golbourne, although there is an outside chance both could join Nouha Dicko and be fit for Saturday's visit of Nottingham Forest.

Jackett is concerned Evans's injury has hindered him during the last two games which have coincided with defeats at Ipswich and Derby and below-par performances from the youngster.

"It's heavily bandaged but I don't know whether that's inhibiting him slightly because it's coincided with the last two games," said Jackett.

"If he was a full-back, he wouldn't be able to take a throw-in or anything like that.

"He says he's OK but I don't know if that has really hampered him.

"The assessment is can he play through that? Or does he need to come out?

"Lee will always say 'yes, I'm fine, I want to play' and that's a good attitude to have."

Jackett signed Sunderland striker Danny Graham on loan to December 31 on Friday.

But he admitted he is still torn at least publicly on changing the team after the 5-0 loss at Derby.

"That assessment is ongoing," said the boss. "It might be 'yes, same XI, they're good enough,' or 'change the formation, bring one or two in that have been missing' or play a recruit from the outside."
