WATCH the Saddlers take on the Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge

Walsall will be gunning for victory tomorrow in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - yet in one competition their hopes are already over.

The Saddlers last week became the latest club to take part in the Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge and as you can see from the video, things didn't quite go according to plan.

Players from the squad attempted to chip the ball from the angle of the 18-yard box into a giant inflatable paint pot on the middle of the six yard line.

Ten points are awarded for a successful chip-in, with one point accumulated each time the paint pot is struck.

Sam Mantom, Liam Kinsella, Tom Bradshaw and Anthony Forde scored a point each by hitting the inflatable. But none managed to get a perfect chip in and though there were some very near misses, the final total of four points was well behind the 26 scored by current leaders Barnsley.

Walsall boss Dean Smith said: "We were delighted to take part in the Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge. It's a tough challenge but a very fun one and the players who took part enjoyed it.

"The lads were disappointed not to get any into the pot, though a few were a bit unlucky, to be fair. It was quite a windy day which made it difficult."

The Saddlers were joined in the challenge by supporter Kate Pritchard, who won a competition to take part in the contest with her heroes.

She said: "I really enjoyed taking part in the Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge. Not many people get the opportunity to mingle with the players at training, so that was a fantastic experience.

"I've been a Walsall season ticket holder for seven years so it was a dream come true."
