Lescott thankful for warm welcome

Albion star Joleon Lescott today thanked Baggies fans for his warm welcome at The Hawthorns despite his past career with arch-rivals Wolves.

Lescott said he was "over the moon" with the reaction from Albion supporters to his first three games for the club but admitted he had been concerned by Wolves fans 'response to the move.

The 32-year-old revealed a good-luck text message from Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey on the day he signed for the Baggies, whose fans have already invented a cheeky song poking fun at his Molineux past.

"I can't really sing the song or even say it in the papers, but I've heard it," joked Lescott.

"And I have been over the moon with the response from the fans. There was never any doubt really, but it's been good.

"I think it has helped with the way we've played and getting the result at Spurs on my debut was a big thing, but it's still nice.

"Before I came here I wasn't that concerned about the West Brom fans' reaction because I thought if I played well they would hopefully take to me.

"I was more concerned about the Wolves fans and how they would feel now I've come to play for their arch-rivals. But it was a situation that happened.

"I have lost none of my love for Wolves and it's still one of the first results I look for every week because I want them to do well and I would love them to be in the Premier League."

Lescott has yet to receive any feedback from friends at Molineux, with most of his ex-Wolves colleagues having left the club since he joined Everton in 2006.

But he revealed he was touched by Moxey's good-luck text when he joined the Baggies this summer on a free transfer from Manchester City.

"I have always been close to Jez," he said.

"I know he's not always had the best relationship with the fans but for me he was great and the club has been successful while he has been there.

"He wished me good luck. It was a private message so I won't reveal what it said but it was a great message from him."
