What a feeling says Albion's super Saido

Albion striker Saido Berahino described the "great" feeling to score at Molineux and fire England Under-21s to victory last night.

Berahino sent the ground's biggest crowd of the season – 23,107 – home happy after his 85th-minute penalty gave Gareth Southgate's side a 2-1 victory in their UEFA European Championships play-off first leg.

The Baggies hotshot won the spot kick after setting up Harry Kane's 58th-minute header to cancel out Marko Livaja's 13th-minute opener. And the Burrindi-born goalscorer gleefully smashed it home in front of the South Bank to give the young Lions a slender advantage for Tuesday's second leg.

"I was put on penalties so it was a great thing for me to take it and put it in the back of the net," said Berahino, who has now notched nine goals in as many games for the Under-21s this qualifying campaign.

"I've been feeling confident so far so it was great to see it go in.

"I'm happy to contribute to the team, especially with an assist, which I'm not known for. Then I won the penalty and scored it, so all round I was happy with my performance.

"I'm just feeling really blessed because I'm performing well for my club and country. I hope it carries on and that God keeps blessing me even more.

"Now we've got a tough game in Croatia and we've got to make sure we win."

Berahino believes England can finish the job and make it to next year's finals in the Czech Republic.

"We're confident. We saw what they're about but we performed well and we know we can go to an extra gear," he said. "So we've got to be confident, stay compact and don't allow any more goals and finish the job off."

Berahino reckoned Southgate's side executed their gameplan to a tee against a physical Croatian side.

"The plan was to come here and win to stand us in good stead at their place," he said. "The second half certainly livened up. We were disappointed to give them a soft goal because we'd been working really hard not to concede from set-pieces and unfortunately it happened.

"We dug deep, had a good team talk and we gave it our all in the second half and it was great we got the right result.

"He (Southgate) told us to just keep doing what we were doing because they hadn't caused us many problems.

"We just had to dig in. It was good we got the equaliser early on and then we kicked on."
