Two more goals from Saido Berahino inspired West Brom to their third win in a week and handed Alan Irvine a maiden home victory as boss.

Berahino struck on 45 and 56 minutes after Craig Dawson had opened the scoring against the Clarets side who wanted to sign him in the summer.

Graham Dorrans completed the scoring in the final minutes as the Baggies made easy work of Sean Dyche's newly-promoted side.

Albion started brightly and moved the ball with tempo and purpose but were unable to create a clearcut chance in the opening exchanges.

They survived an early penalty appeal when a left-wing cross struck the shoulder of Andre Wisdom in the box, although replays showed a spot-kick would have been a harsh award.

And moments later they could have claimed a freak goal to put them ahead when a smart passing move ended with a poorly-directed cross-shot from Chris Brunt struck Clarets centre-back Michael Duff.

The Burnley man had little control over the direction of the deflection but looked on gratefully as it cannoned into the side-netting.

The Baggies continued to hold the upper hand but some of their earlier momentum dissipated with a cross-shot just wide by Saido Berahino after some clever footwork the closest they went to a goal in the opening half-hour.

Burnley were happy to soak up Baggies pressure and Sebastien Pocognoli accepted the invitation to burst forward at every opportunity.

But the Belgian was unable to find the precision of delivery to match the energy of his overlapping runs.

The hosts forced a series of corners that seemed destined to come to nothing until one of them yielded the opening goal just after the half-hour.

The delivery from the right by Chris Brunt found its way to the near post, where Dawson leapt above Jason Shackell to head towards goal.

And his effort crossed the line despite a desperate attempt by Kieran Trippier to clear under pressure from Berahino.

The Baggies continued to peg their visitors back in the wake of the opener and Brunt sent a long-range effort just over before Graham Dorrans went even closer with a long-range strike.

His stinging effort from 25 yards was pushed over brilliantly by Tom Heaton in the Burnley goal.

That simply delayed the second Albion goal, which arrived in first-half stoppage-time as a near-post corner from James Morrison was flicked on by Dorrans for Berahino, who nodded in from close range.

Burnley made a double change at half-time but they could not alter the momentum of the match, which continued when Morrison blasted into the Smethwick End after a smart passing move from a corner.

And the Baggies were 3-0 up 11 minutes into the second half as they finally broke the Clarets' stout resistance to unlock their defence in open play.

A fine through-ball from Dorrans found Berahino, who produced an instinctive first-time finish to beat Heaton with his right foot.

The visitors showed spirit and they might have reduced the arrears when Lukas Jutkiewicz rose to meet a Trippier cross, only for Ben Foster in the Baggies goal to produce a fine, flying save.

The Baggies could have added to their lead when another purposeful move ended with Dorrans weaving his way past two defenders in the Burnley penalty area and dragged a left-footed shot just wide.

Burnley posed little threat and their misery was completed in the final minute when Albion's pace and incisive attacking proved too much for them.

Giorgios Samaras fed fellow substitute Cristian Gamboa, who tore down the right and pulled back for Dorrans, whose crisp drive found the bottom corner.
