Jackett open to Fletcher return

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett today refused to rule out a controversial return for Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher has mysteriously failed to appear in Sunderland's last two squads after starting their first three games of the season. And with Wolves still searching for a striker and the loan window allowing them to make signings to January from October 1, social media has been full of speculation debating Fletcher's possible return.

Jackett says the 27-year-old hasn't yet appeared on a long list of targets.

But he said the striker's baggage wouldn't prevent him moving to bring him back if he thought it was right.

"He's not one we've pursued but we'll see – we're always looking at players and you never know where you go," said the Wolves chief.

"People (fans) are asking about him but I don't know if he's available. But he's not someone we've considered or we've enquired about."

Fletcher has the distinction of being Wolves' record signing at £7m and record sale at £14m and is the most prolific striker in their brief Premier League history with 22 goals in 61 games.

But, after asking for a transfer request then citing minor injuries when speculation started linking him with moves elsewhere, he left under a cloud in August 2012.

Asked if he would have any qualms about Fletcher's baggage, Jackett said: "No, if any player was right for the club, I'd go past that but I'd maybe talk about it. If it was the right person – whether he was here before or not – that wouldn't worry me."

Jackett still has Southampton youngster Emmanuel Mayuka on his radar but played down a link with him and Elliot Lee at West Ham.

"Predominantly your group's got to be young but there has to be one experienced player, rather than the other way around," he added.
