The 18-year-old has been getting rave reviews after breaking into the first team in his first season as a professional.

Among those team-mates who have lavished praise is defender James O'Connor, whose groin injury originally allowed Kinsella his chance in the side.

The 29-year-old, who then had to fight to regain his place in the starting line-up, believes the youngster has the right attitude to succeed.

"He has been different class," said O'Connor.

"I came here in the summer and did a bit of training before I'd actually signed, just to keep ticking over.

"And he was one of the young lads who I did a bit of work with and the first thing you notice about him is that his attitude is absolutely second to none.

"When he came into the games he was different class and that's great for a club like Walsall.

"If you've got young lads stepping up, making a mark and improving the squad it's a good model for the club."

Kinsella featured predominantly as a midfielder in the youth team but has played at right-back in the first team so far.

O'Connor, who himself can play across the backline, believes such versatility can only help his progression.

"I spoke to him and I told him that if you're a player who can play in many positions it can help you," said O'Connor.

Walsall's reserves got their season off to a losing start yesterday as they were beaten 2-1 at Tranmere. Levi Rowley scored for Saddlers.

n Walsall's Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round tie at Rochdale has been confirmed for Tuesday, October 7 (7.30pm).
