Wolves' Wood deal is off after capital pain

Wolves' move for Chris Wood is off after they failed to agree terms with Leicester and the striker.

Kenny Jackett had targeted Wood all summer but, despite Wolves submitting an official bid, they could not strike a deal.

The news comes after last night's miserable 3-2 Capital One Cup first-round defeat to Northampton at a sodden Molineux.

Jackett said: "It looks like that one has passed now and we're moving on.

"We didn't get a deal agreed with the club or the player, we did make an approach but we haven't made further contact and we're moving on.

"It is what is, we have to accept that and it's something which has come out, we understand, and it's left me answering the situation.

"It doesn't look like it'll be resurrected and we're moving on."

It is a double blow for Wolves after two goals from debutant Lawson D'Ath and a header from Ivan Toney stunned them last night.

The duo had fired the Cobblers into a 2-0 lead before Nouha Dicko and Sam Ricketts levelled – with all four goals coming inside nine second-half minutes.

But D'Ath's header, with 18 minutes left, sunk the hosts who had dominated before Northampton's opening goal.

Bakary Sako and Dicko's introduction from the bench almost saved Wolves but they were knocked out by the League Two side – after the home team had three 'goals' ruled out for offside.

Jackett added: "Our passing and control of the game was good but we didn't capitalise on that. We didn't look like being first to the ball in the box which you have to do.

"Fair play to Northampton, they played very well.

"Defensively two of the three goals were from set-pieces and that's something we're normally good at.

"One of the offside goals was onside – the second one – the other two were off."
