Southampton will step up their efforts to land Villa captain Ron Vlaar, after selling defender Dejan Lovren to Liverpool for £20million. New Saints boss Ronald Koeman managed Vlaar at Feyenoord.
WALSALL
Walsall manager Dean Smith has passed on signing Spanish trialist Borja Prieto Ruiz - but has allowed striker Danny Webber to continue trying to earn a contract offer.
